Invenia Group has partnered with a fast-growing organisation, looking for their next strategic hire. The Associate Director – Business Development & In-Licensing will play a pivotal role in the organisation’s growth strategy by identifying, evaluating and securing strategic partnerships, licensing opportunities and BD deals.

This position requires a thorough understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, regulatory requirements, and the ability to assess potential product opportunities. This role is remote across the EU.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with senior management to define in-licensing needs
  • Conceptualizing, designing, developing, negotiating and implementing strategies for the in-licensing needs in European DTM markets including Work on RoI (“Return on Investment”) and payback models for all in-licensing projects (i.e. building business cases including multiple scenarios)
  • Review, analyse and benchmark developers/suppliers and offers/costs for in-licensing needs
  • Identify and finalise in-licensing partners/ suppliers/ developers to meet the in-licensing needs of the European DTM markets
  • Initiation, monitoring and assessment of patent reports; Coordination of potential patent action of defence in cooperation with internal and external patent attorneys and the concerned partners and distribution companies
  • Setting up and management of several in-licensing databases for the analysis of the different in-licensing needs
  • Terminate, extend or renegotiate existing in-licensing agreements
  • Responsible (with supply and purchase teams) for supply price reduction of the existing centralised in licensed portfolio as per the changing market dynamics/ business needs
  • Negotiate licensing and supply agreements/contracts with suppliers
  • Work closely with the legal team to finalise the CDAs, licensing and supply agreements/contracts with suppliers
  • Create and improve internal processes concerning in-licensing formulation needs
  • Assist, contribute to, and provide inputs for market access options/possibilities, the Company’s European strategy, commercial strategy and regulatory strategy/ plan and then take responsibility for executing the commercial/licensing strategy for the respective in-licensing needs of the business
  • Take responsibility for any ad-hoc duties/ activities as requested by the business from time to time
  • Identify and evaluate potential development and licensing opportunities in alignment with the company’s strategic objectives.
  • Conduct market research and analysis to identify market trends, competitors and potential partners
  • Assess product candidates, technologies, and intellectual property to determine their commercial viability and fit within the organisation’s portfolio
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including R&D, Legal, regulatory and commercial teams etc., to evaluate potential opportunities and develop business cases
  • Conduct due diligence on potential partners, including assessing their financial stability, regulatory compliance, and intellectual property rights
  • Led and negotiated licensing agreements, including drafting and reviewing contracts, financial terms and intellectual property rights
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful implementation of licensing agreements, including overseeing project plans, timelines and deliverables.
  • Monitor and stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes and competitive landscape to identify potential risks and opportunities
  • Stay updated on industry best practices and contribute to the continuous improvement of the development and licensing process
  • Get involved in Acquisitions of assets or companies-this could be identifying an asset and even being the lead on the Acquisition from initiation to conclusion

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or business-related field.
  • Several years of experience in business development, licensing, or related roles in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Established relationships with European dossier suppliers and developers
  • Solid understanding of drug development processes, regulatory requirements, and intellectual property
  • Proven track record of identifying and securing strategic partnerships or licensing deals in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate complex scientific, financial and legal information
  • Excellent negotiation, influencing and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels associated Director Business Development & In-Licensing
