Due to continued growth, our client is seeking a Group Leader, In Vitro Pharmacology for their site in Oxfordshire.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Play a primary role in establishing an in vitro pharmacology platform to support DMTA (Design Make Test Analyse) workflows, maintaining a cutting-edge awareness of technical developments and scientific knowledge to improve assay performance.
  • Recruit and lead a group of skilled in vitro pharmacologists consisting of team leaders, masters/engineers and technicians, while collaborating in a multidisciplinary, fast-paced discovery-oriented environment, and at the interface of several departments.
  • Successfully represent the company externally to potential new clients and collaborators in In Vitro pharmacology and/or integrated drug discovery projects.
  • Be responsible for supporting existing activities as well as establishing novel In Vitro assays, know-how and capabilities within the In Vitro department in the UK in response to new business opportunities, working efficiently with other scientists within the company and/or external platforms.

 Skills & Experience Required:

  • Minimum of a PhD
  • Significant pharmaceutical industry, biotech and/or CRO experience required
  • Records and accomplishments in drug discovery project delivery with clients/partners required
  • A proven background in in vitro pharmacology and drug discovery with a track record of contributing to projects involving various target classes and technologies. Experience in RF/MS and/or other biophysical technologies is a plus
  • Demonstrated skills in developing and leading in vitro pharmacology activities in collaboration with other line functions, including chemistry and DMPK departments.
  • Experience in building teams from the ground up is a plus
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, works well independently and as a group leader, and able to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to organise, analyse and communicate complex scientific concepts and data sets in a clear and concise manner to key stakeholders/clients from diverse backgrounds. Ensures attention to detail
  • Ability to manage collaborators, supervise trainees and ensure regular training of colleagues in the in vitro pharmacology field
  • Skilled in designing in vitro biology approaches including short-term and long-term experimental plans, gap analysis, study follow up (timelines, costs, deliverables)
  • Autonomous, pro-active, flexible and a motivating leader
